If you are traveling to Costa Rica, many major airlines service both Liberia Daniel Oduber Quiros Airport (LIR) and San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). Liberia is the closest airport to Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas, just a short 45 minute drive away. San Jose is also a great option for tickets and access to our resort. Take a right out of the airport onto the main two-lane highway. Drive 10 kilometers and take a right at the directional sign towards Sardinal. After the gas station, take a left, near the Congo Trail billboard, a bus stop and a RIU sign. This is a paved road. Continue straight on this road for approximately 10 kilometers. You will reach the soccer field at Colon, drive around it and take a left onto a small dirt road. Please make sure your car is in 4×4 for this road. (Don’t follow Las Catalinas sign, that is a different route, in bad conditions during the rainy season).
You will pass the Congo Trail Canopy Tour, keep straight for about 25 minutes. You will reach the Potrero town, pass Marco Polo restaurant and keep straight until you will reach a soccer field. Drive around the soccer field and turn right, following Las Catalinas sign. Drive for 10 minutes until you see the entrance to the Green House restaurant and Pura Vida Ride at Las Catalinas. Park here. * The last 25 minutes are on a dirt road and Casa Chameelon is perched on top of the hill just before the town of Las Catalinas.
Drive the way out of the terminal and take route #01 for 15 minutes approximately. Take a detour to the right in La Garita to Atenas in order to merge route #27. (This route has tolls, so you will need to pay in cash). Drive for 75 minutes (through Orotina and Caldera) until you encounter again route #1 (follow signs to Liberia), drive for approximately 60 minutes until “Puente La Amistad” crossroad then drive for 45 minutes on the way to Nicoya (route #21), Santa Cruz and then Belen where you take to the left (gas station on the left side), route to Huacas (route#155). Drive approximately 25 minutes then turn right to Brasilito (5 minutes) and then follow the signs of Las Catalinas for 25 minutes until you get to Las Catalinas.
