At Hotel Casa Chameleon we love connecting our friendly staff with our wonderful guests. We love when visitors take the time to get to know our locals and also our team loves meeting people from all around the world! Each month we pick a member of our team to sit down and get to know them better. This month we sat down with Javier, assistant to the chef, and got to know a little bit more about him and his life here in spectacular Playa Santa Teresa.
- Where are you from & how long have you lived in Santa Teresa?
I am a Mal Pais, Santa Teresa native. I was born here in our wonderful town in August of 1989 and have lived here ever since. It is not only a special place since my family is here but also because of all the beautiful and special people & things this town has to offer.
- Describe your job at Hotel Casa Chameleon.
Nine months I started my job at Hotel Casa Chameleon as the Chef’s assistant at our amazing on-site restaurant. Since starting my position here at the hotel I have learned so much about the culinary arts and continue to learn new things everyday, which is only one benefit of working with such great & talented people. I look forward to everyday learning new things, sharing our delicious cuisine with our guests and provide them with a meal they will never forget, using as many local, organic and fresh ingredients Costa Rica has to offer.
- What is your favorite part about Santa Teresa and Costa Rica?
There are so many great things about Santa Teresa it is hard to pick just one! I would have to say though one of my favorite & best activities in the area to do with my friends or family is going fishing. I grew up fishing here in Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, so naturally being by the ocean is what I love most. The ocean & sea is my passion so in addition to fishing I also love surfing and sharing the local life, traditions and values with all our guests.
- What is your favorite part about Hotel Casa Chameleon?
As I mentioned before working & learning new things daily in the kitchen is one of my favorite things about working at Hotel Casa Chameleon. Other than creating delicious and tasty meals for our guests, I also love getting to know people from all over the world. We are lucky to have such a great mix of visitors and being able to give them a little piece of Costa Rica lifestyle is a great feeling.
- What are your top 3 tips or suggestions for visitors?
Santa Teresa and Costa Rica has so many wonderful things to offer tourists. My favorite, or top three suggestions would be to take the time to explore and enjoy all the breathtaking beaches in the area. Being voted some of the best beaches in Costa Rica there is no question that you will be able to find a pristine, secluded spot to relax and enjoy your day. Surfing, no matter what level you may be, is another great activity. With the warm Pacific Ocean waters and consistent conditions, I highly recommend taking a board out! Lastly, I would say that getting to know some of the locals and historic cultures of the town is a great way to connect to Costa Rica and create lifelong memories and maybe even friends!
- What does Pura Vida mean to you?
Pura Vida, or pure life, is a saying that we use here in Santa Teresa, and all over Costa Rica everyday! It is more than just a couple words or a greeting, it is a lifestyle feeling that to me means relaxing and enjoying the company of friends, beachfront with a cold Pilsen or Imperial and enjoying the tranquil sounds of nature and blue waters. As a Costa Rican I also believe that Pura Vida reminds us all how grateful and lucky we are to be living such a wonderful place and life!
