All year round when visiting Santa Teresa and Mal Pais visitors can expect to see a wide variety of flora and fauna throughout the peninsula. Enjoy the sounds of howler monkeys, sightings of iguanas and pizotes, along with plenty of colorful birds and butterflies while on vacation. In addition to the year-round habitants of the jungles of Costa Rica we also get some seasonal wildlife that make for one of the best activities during green season.

During the months of August to November one of the best things to do in Santa Teresa is to go on a boat tour. Typically leaving in the morning from the fishing village in Mal Pais, guests can enjoy a few hours out at sea fishing for yellow fin tuna, red snapper and all while spotting various types of whales and dolphins.

Specifically on the Nicoya Peninsula nature lovers can expect to see humpback whales, bottlenose dolphins, spinner dolphins and gorgeous sea turtles.

If you prefer to explore these breathtaking animals off the boat there is also snorkel and scuba tours that will expose adventure seekers to an up-close and personal experience with the oceans dwellers. These tours go everywhere from Mal Pais, Santa Teresa, Montezuma and Tortuga Island depending on what you prefer.
